China-Vietnam JointIy Created symphony "Evergreen Friendship" performed at GXU

Recently, the symphony concert "Evergreen Friendship," jointly composed by Chinese and Vietnamese musicians, was successfully held at the Huixue Hall of Guangxi UniversityGXU. The event was co-organized by GXU and Guangxi Arts University. Liu Boxian, Party Secretary of Guangxi Arts University, and Tang Zhihua, Deputy Party Secretary of Guangxi University, attended the performance.

The concert was divided into four movements: "Sharing the Same River," "Strings of Time," "Cultural Bonds," and "Evergreen Friendship," representing the geographical, historical, cultural, and future dimensions of China-Vietnam relations. The artists skillfully integrated traditional Guangxi instruments—such as the Bolié (a single-reed pipe), Tiǎnqín (a two-stringed plucked fiddle), Maguhu (a horse bone fiddle), and bronze drum—with Vietnamese instruments like ?àn B?u (a monochord) and bamboo xylophone into the symphony's arrangement. The distinctive ethnic timbres blended harmoniously with the orchestral sounds, vividly illustrating the profound bond between the two nations and received storms of applause from the audience.

As the first large-scale symphony jointly created by Chinese and Vietnamese composers on a shared theme and genre, "Evergreen Friendship" premiered at the 14th China-ASEAN (Nanning) Music Week in 2025 and was later showcased at the Ho Chi Minh City International Music Festival in Vietnam. It has garnered widespread acclaim from domestic and international experts, with reviews and reports featured across major media platforms.

Hosting this concert at Guangxi University not only served as a vibrant practice of Sino-Vietnamese cultural exchange but also demonstrated the university's commitment to enriching campus cultural life and advancing aesthetic education.
